Acne is a horrible condition, because it not only affects people’s looks but it can have an effect on them psychologically as well. Doctors can go a long way to clearing up acne, but the psychological effects can take years longer to get over. One of the main concerns is that most of those who have the problem of facing acne and coping with its effects are fairly young and not actually emotionally robust enough to do it.

We all know how cruel some people and especially children can get. Children and teenagers with acne can get taunted and bullied until they think that their life is not worth living and they absolutely do not want to go back to school. The best tactic is to remind your child that acne is a sign of the body changing from a child to an adult and that this process does not last that long. In the meantime, you can take your child to visit your doctor or a dermatologist. There are things that you can do to alleviate the condition and they are neither difficult nor costly. There are several different reasons for acne or forms of acne, but they all boil down to the same thing – too much oil is being trapped under the skin and when the pressure builds up, the skin gives way. That is why it is called an eruption or a break-out.

Go to the doctor’s with your child so that you understand the difficulty too and can give opportune advice and reminders of what the doctor said to do and what not to do.

Basically, you have to be there for your child at this, what is probably, the most awkward and most testing time of his or her life so far. Be sure that the child knows that you are prepared to do what it takes to help them over this episode in their life and do not try to belittle acne or its psychological effects or you run the risk of making your child think that it is stupid.

Therefore, wash as anyone one else would, but not more frequently and do not use perfumed soap. You might be allergic and you do not need more possibilities to cloud the subject.

Your hair and your hands also bear a certain amount of oil for the same reason, so keep them off your face. Your hair and your hands are oily and dust and pollution stick to them. If they touch your face, you are risking clogging up more pores with oily debris and thus worsening your acne issue.

Tie your hair back if it is long and use a handkerchief if you have to touch your face. Other things that come in everyday contact with your face that could be oily and dirty are pillow cases and towels. Therefore, shower before going to bed and use clean pillowcases each night.

As far as towels go, just use your own. Change it each day and if you require a towel outside your home, either carry your own or far better, use paper towels and do not rub, but dab your face dry.

There are specialist creams you can use to replace soap, but some of them are very harsh, which could trigger an over production of oil again. Just remember that you have to let acne run its course, but you do not have to exacerbate it either.
