South-western Home Decor

So what exactly is southwestern home decor and how can you introduce it into your own home? Well, to start with southwestern home decor reflects the southwest and all its best traits. Southwestern home decor uses colourful throw rugs, gorgeous wall hangings, and if you look hard enough, you can even find great kitchen accessories as well.

If you’re thinking about bringing southwestern home decor into your home, first of all, you need to check whether it will fit in with your existing decor or whether it would clash horribly. Almost all southwestern home decor has bright, eye catching colours, as well as stunning designs and motifs.

So, if your existing furniture would clash with any of these southwestern pieces, you can do one of two things. Firstly, you could always just ditch all your old furniture and replace them with fantastic pieces of southwestern home decor. Or you could just buy one or two pieces of the southwestern home decor range and match them carefully with your existing knick-knacks.

Personally speaking, I would rather replace everything I have since there’s some wear, but in reality that’s just not possible. For one thing it would just be way over my budget, and for another I would rather not have to listen to a lecture from my mother about extravagance. I’ve discovered that you can get away from from your friends but not from your mother!

Besides, I’m also more than little relieved that I didn’t give into my first impulse and redecorate all in a southwestern home decor style. Granted that it does look really nice, but sometimes I also like the serenity that some of my other pieces of furniture bring to in me. Therefore, I have now come up with the perfect solution and have instead resorted to buying one-off pieces that catch my attention and dotting my home with those instead.

And I have to admit that its made quite a difference to the appearance of my whole home. Lush and rich pieces of the more traditional furniture now rest quite comfortably with the more vibrant and stunning designs of my southwestern home decor. I’ve even got hold of a great rug for my bathroom floor and a gorgeous set of hand towels. My kitchen sports a new set of southwestern motifs, and my foyer has the most amazing lampshade and statuette in full view.

Though all of this might sound over the top, I’ve found that this is the best way to bring the glories of southwestern home decor into my life, without going all out and replacing your entire house with southwestern decor and motifs.

Moreover, you only want to add a dash of southwestern decor to your home, not the whole thing. Oh, and did I forget to tell you about the gorgeous tapestry I bought the other day? It’s just right.

Ideas For Painting Walls

Here you are then, standing in your new house! Its a bit of a mess though since the vendor was in a hurry to sell and had been in the middle of renovating. Still, you don’t really mind that though, since it gives you the perfect opportunity to do your new house up just the way you want it.

However, now you need to decide where everything should go and which colours would suit which rooms, but you don’t have any wall painting ideas.

So, you eagerly look through your new keys and wander through your new house. The minute you step in through a door ideas assail you. That huge vase you bought last year ago would look great in the corner, and you’re pretty sure that your existing couch set will fit in this other room. And you know that an antique mirror table would look stunning in the hallway. The only thing you really get hung up on though are wall painting ideas.

You certainly don’t want to simply dab on a few coats of bland paint and have done with it. What you want is something special! Something that you can look on with pride every time you see it and, of course, you want to be able to keep looking at it with pleasure for quite some time to come as well, so it shouldn’t be too over the top.

But where can you get some good wall painting ideas from, and how do you go about getting the wall painting done? There are a few ways that you could go about it. The easiest being if you have an artistic streak in you, then you could always get your wall painting ideas off the cuff, so to speak and paint the walls as you like. Unfortunately, most of us aren’t too artistic and we are hesitant to pick up a brush or roller and apply the first coat of paint without supervision. In this scenario then, you will need some help.

You could start off by hiring a professional interior designer to help you decide what would look good or you could sit down and watch some DIY programs on the TV, where they show some pretty good ideas on what to do when decorating a house and will even give you some great wall painting ideas.

If neither of these options is viable for you though, you might just try going down to your local DIY shop with fabric swatches and colour sheets of your most prominent pieces of furniture and enlist their assistance on stylish wall decorating ideas.

You might come up with a hodge-podge of wall painting ideas with this last suggestion, but I found that it was the one that worked best for me and now I’m very proud of my slightly quirky house. It reflects who I am just perfectly.

Country Decorating Ideas

For those who live in the country decorating ideas are not hard to come by. Personally speaking, I think that a lot of my inspiration comes from the world around me. When I say that, I don’t mean that I use the most obvious aspects of the country around me, only that if you look hard enough you’ll always find a subtle blend of country decorating ideas that you will be able to incorporate into your own home decor.

Doing your home up with country decorating ideas is all well and good but if you don’t make it blend in naturally with your surroundings your house will stick out like a sore thumb intruding upon the glories of nature. Haven’t you ever looked at a house in the country and thought to yourself: how beautiful and peaceful it was, and how much you’d really like to live there?

Have you ever asked yourself why this was so? Without a doubt, it was for its simplicity and elegance, together with the fact that it blended in so well with its surroundings. If you live in the country, without doubt you’re not sure what I’m prattling on about and you are asking yourself why I mention it.

Maybe you’ve lived in the country all of your life and you really don’t understand what is that wonderful about the old country decorating ideas and homes that blend in with the environment. After all, a country house is much like any other house that you can find anywhere else. Or so you might imagine.

Well, in my opinion, you’d be wrong on that score! Country homes are a sight for sore eyes for those people who live in a concrete hell. So, if you’re fortunate enough to have a house in the country enjoy the it.

When you own a home in the country decorating ideas should be coming into your head nineteen to the dozen and with only a little planning on your part, you can make your normal country home into a cozy country retreat.

The only negative aspect I’ve noticed with this so far is the amount of inspiration I receive from my environment. That might not sound like a bad thing, but believe me, there’s not much worse than having country decorating ideas pouring into your mind with almost no let-up and not being able to put them all into practice.

However, when this flow starts to happen, I just sit back and let it take over me. I’ve always found that there is no use fighting against the inevitable, although a little dreaming never did any harm. If the ideas I’ve had are really good and grip my attention, I take down detailed notes about what I’d like to do.

So, the you have it, no matter whether you want to change your home into a country residence, or whether you just want to redecorate the home you already have with country decorating ideas, the inspiration should be easy to come across and just as easy to put into place. A country home is the right place to be to implement your country decorating ideas and relax from your fast workday day.

Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

So, you have made up your mind to remodel your bathroom, you have some bathroom remodeling ideas and now and you are hoping for that perfect bathroom design. You know the one you are looking for. It has got to be just right for you and it has to weather the years with grace. The colours shouldn’t clash, and you should be able to stand the sight of it day after day from when you finish it for many years to come.

The perfect bathroom design should include every new bathroom gadget known to man and you should still have enough room to move around without hitting your head or your elbow on some protruding edge. Your perfect bathroom design should also pass the test of time, still looking as graceful as it did when you first remodelled it. Its not too much to ask really, only a mini miracle on the scale of raising Lazarus.

OK, let’s be honest about it, they are the kind of bathroom remodeling ideas that everyone is looking for, but which no one has yet found. Or at least not to their full satisfaction. Therefore, there is really only one thing left for you to do, and that is to cut corners here and there on your perfect bathroom design. It might become slightly imperfect but at least you will still have most of your bathroom remodeling ideas from your original design.

Sometimes you might even find that you have to sacrifice some great bathroom remodeling ideas for practicality, but don’t worry, this can also be fitted into your bathroom design without too much of a fuss. And you most likely even notice too much of a difference, unless of course you wanted to move the bath right across to the other side of the bathroom but can’t due to logistical reasons.

In which scenario the whole of your bathroom remodeling ideas might need to be revised. That having been said however, there’s really not too much that can go that wrong if you stick to a fairly simple bathroom design. One that is easy to implement and is also easy on the pocket. Something else that you might want to consider is easy maintenance.

Even a huge bathroom should be easily maintainable. This need not be anything elaborate and can even be something as simple as getting a small bathroom caddy on which you can place a number of your everyday items like soap, shampoo, brush etc..

For sure, you could always go to the other extreme by taking away all your old junk and replacing them with state-of-the-art, easy to clean gadgets instead.

The bathroom remodelling ideas are all your own and it really all depends on what sort of bathroom remodelling ideas you released within yourself when you first started your search for the perfect bathroom design.

But remember that once you have started redecorating, it is very hard to know when to stop. So, check out all your options first and then implement bathroom remodeling ideas in a way that will bring you closest to fulfilling the bathroom remodeling ideas you have for the perfect bathroom design.

Decor for Teen Rooms

Teen rooms are the bane of mothers everywhere. It’s not even like when they were pre-teens. In those days, if their rooms were messy, you could shout at them and get them to clean it up, and, if that didn’t work, you could go in and do a good job yourself. However, when it comes to teens and their rooms you’re dealing with something completely different entirely.

True, you could go and ask them to tidy up their rooms. And yes, you could shout at them a little, if you wanted to, or go and clean the room yourself. However, that’s when all the trouble starts. Teen rooms are private places and not to be entered into unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Heaven help the person who dares to clean up even one inch of that mess on the carpet. It was there for a good reason and you had absolutely no right to move it. At least, that will be what most teens will argue, and you being the patient, caring mother that you are, will just roll your eyes skywards and explain that the pizza and three-day-old shirt thing just don’t go well together and you were just rescuing them from impending disease.

Your teens will in turn roll their eyes and protest loudly, that no it wasn’t about to grow legs and walk off on its own, and if it was then wouldn’t that be a great science project. You keep cleaning and they keep putting things back. End of story, and you’re basically right back to square one.

Of course, one way that you could deal with this catastrophe is to redecorate. Teen rooms might be sanctities of peace for them, but even they would like it if you gave their rooms a great makeover.

That’s not to say that the room will be any cleaner once you’ve finished and they’ve moved back in, but at least you’ll get to see the inside of the room long enough to satisfy you for the next couple of years. That is unless you’re thinking of redoing their rooms every year.

But now you come to your next problem. Since teens are famously different with regard to their rooms. You might find that your teen rooms are decorated quite differently from that which you had expected and that which you would have done first of all. This is where a comprise ought to be struck, if your teen wants black walls for his room, then say you want another colour too that will offset the black.

Be prepared to compromise a little on your ideas no matter how ridiculous their ideas seem. After all, they’re only a teen for a while and later they will look back with horror on what bad taste they had.

As a parent it is your duty to give them these moments in their lives which they can look back on with due horror, and ban their kids from doing the same to their own teen rooms.

Black and White Ideas for Stylish Home Decor

When people begin thinking about living room decorating ideas and making changes to their residence, whether it be one or two rooms or even the entire house, the first thing that usually comes to mind is ‘what colour’. Generally, people choose colours that they like or those which match pieces of their existing furniture. When looking for living room decorating ideas, one idea which is perhaps too often overlooked is decorating with the two basic colours (or shades, to be accurate) ” black and white.

Black and white, when used in decorating shows style and creates drama. Top interior designers say that every room in the house could benefit by using a slash of black. Black is a colour which anchors and grounds a room. Bringing sophistication, black is certainly a colour that demands attention. Living room decorating ideas for a home using black may include accessories such as light fixtures, trim or furniture. Black serves to add definition to the focal points in a room. Black is just one of the colours that makes a statement, but it is definitely one of the most eye-catching!

Using black and white shades in your stylish home decor, lends a clean, fresh, elegant touch to the mood of the room. This combination can be added to any room in a home making it a sophisticated space. Black and white are often used in contemporary home decorating and often used to accent other colors in French Country design. It may be hard to conceptualize but there are many ideas for decorating a home using combinations of only these two basic shades.

The flooring is a great place to start when you’re having living room decorating ideas. Black and white vinyl tiles laid alternately make a beautiful checkered pattern and gives a clean and elegant appearance. Black marble used on the floor, accented by wide white skirting boards is another beautiful idea for decorating a home. Laying white ceramic tiles with a black border or simply painting the floor black or white and using stencils of the opposite colour for decoration is also stunning. These all are great ideas for decorating a room.

Can you imagine anything more perfect than white walls? Painting the walls white or even an off-white would make a perfect background for decorations such as paintings framed in black. What magnificent living room decorating ideas! Elegant black window surrounds or black shutters against a clean, crisp white wall would definitely create an air of sophistication. Perhaps a glass-topped table with a black iron trim and black chairs? These are great ideas for decorating a room using only black and white.

Imagine a bedroom decorated using only black and white – that would be beautiful stylish home decor too. A black or white iron bed-frame, covered with a striped black and white duvet or eiderdown. The pillow cases could be either all black or all white and you could add throw cushions in the opposite colour.

A chunky leather black or white armchair in the corner would definitely accent the living room decorating ideas. Then you could have the white walls with a sophisticated piece of artwork, framed in black, hanging on it. That would surely add to the modern feel of your living room decorating ideas. Black furniture against the crisp white walls would look really neat and tidy and you could spruce it all up with accessories like pewter or silver candlesticks, jugs or vases.

If you think the stylish home decor needs a little colour to complete the look, perhaps a throw or cushion in a bold color like red or gold, for the chair in the corner of the room would be enough to accent the room. Ideas for decorating a home are numerous. However, finding one that suits you and those that live in your home with you is important. It’s nice to do something radical and off-the-wall but remember you must be able to live with it for quite a while.

Ideas for Interior Design

Redecorating your house really isn’t that easy and it only gets even less so when you are stumped for ideas. The only real way to get over this shortage of interior design ideas, is to sit down, put your feet up and have some tea or coffee.

I’m not joking, there’s no better way of getting a new perspective on things than taking a break from everything. In the first place, you become more relaxed, and in the second place a steaming cup of tea or coffee is always welcome.

Now that you’re sitting down comfortably and are suitably relaxed, shut your eyes and get a mental picture of the room that you are going to redecorate. Even if you are doing more than one room, it’s always a good idea to begin with one room first, working your way logically through to the next one and then the next one.

Before you commence your journey through the maze of interior design ideas, get yourself a notebook and pencil so that you can write down any inspirational ideas you have before they are forgotten

So, simply lie back and imagine the room in your mind. Try to picture it as you want it to look. And if that’s too hard, first try to replace separate parts of your room or articles in it. This is always a good method of working. But, if you’ve still got a mental dearth of interior design ideas, leaf through some interior design catalogues beforehand so that you have at least some basic ideas of what you can do to change the room.

The interior design catalogues need not be anything more grand than your free local department store catalogue, turned to the home furnishing section. Then again, these days you also get specialist shops which deal solely with the redecorating of your home. If you have the time, a quick trip down to one of these might also help to end the dearth on interior design ideas, and can possibly get you started.

These stores will have decorated sets of many designs, giving you a good impression of what your room could look like if you buy those materials. However, if you’re going to one of those shops, expect to spend some money as no matter how hard you try to keep a tight hand on your wallet, you’ll always find something you want to buy.

This is not necessarily a bad thing to do, but unless you watch out you could end up buying things you don’t need. And without a proper idea of what you want the room to look like, this can prove to be disastrous. Not to worry though, if you keep your goal in mind, you can go back home and get a start on redecorating your rooms the way you like.

Furthermore, now that you’ve been able to get a few interior design ideas of what you want your rooms to look like, your whole redecorating project ought to be that much easier and that much more enjoyable too.

Beautiful Landscape Lighting

While having a fantastic looking garden is important you will need to consider ways of allowing the beauty of your garden to shine through in various types of weather situations. Some people also like to have the option of having their garden lit up at night. For these many people, looking at various landscape lighting options will permit you the opportunity of having your garden looking just the way you want it, no matter what the natural lighting conditions are.

In order to provide the right landscape lighting conditions you will have to choose from a variety of lighting fixtures. These fixtures can be in the form of lamps, lanterns, spotlights, halogen lights and even solar lights. The price of these lighting fixtures differs for each style of lighting.

If you are thinking of using landscape lighting you will need to decide where to place the lights in order to achieve the best lighting effects. You may also want to think about which lights will shower your garden with a bright lighting. You can look in landscaping magazines to obtain an idea of the various ways that landscape lighting fixtures can be utilized.

While it may possible to find ideas for installing landscape lighting in your garden from landscape and gardening magazines, there is another way as well. For this other method, you have to look at your garden in the daytime and in the night time. In the morning you will need to look what places in your garden could be improved by the use of landscape lighting. Then, when night falls, you look out at your garden again and see what areas would benefit from the use of lighting.

Then, the morning after this nocturnal inspection, you can go out into the garden again and mark out approximately where you feel there is a requirement for landscape lighting. Once you have inspected this area properly, try imagining what type of lights will be useful. You can then go to the garden store to look for these kinds of lights.

After you have bought your perfect lights and you have studied the instructions on setting them up you will need to start fixing the landscape lighting in a way that will make sure that your garden looks beautiful. Coloured lighting is worth considering too.

Once you have completed your tests and have installed your final lighting, you will see what a difference having the right landscape lighting can make to your garden. From now on, when night falls, you will be able to appreciate the beauty of your garden in a different light.

Ideas For Painting Indoors

Redecorating or renovating your house is never easy, and it gets especially harder and more tedious when you need to paint as well. Slapping on one coat of paint after another can be draining if you’re doing it alone and still have the whole house to consider.

And let’s not even start talking about the ceilings! But even if you do stick to the same old staid exterior paint job, it doesn’t need to be the same for the interior – you could always try some wild and wonderful interior painting ideas. If nothing else you’ll be guaranteed a reaction from all who enter your house.

By keeping the exterior painting plans to the necessary minimum, you can spend more time and creativity to the interior. You can allow your imagination run wild with all those interior painting ideas you always wanted to implement but never got around to. And, as they say, there’s no time like the present, and be honest, when are you going to get round to redecorating your house again?

Don’t get alarmed though, when I’m talking about out of this world interior painting ideas I’m not saying that you should do something that resembles a Picasso painting. I’m talking about something more along the lines of a paint job that will reflect back who you are.

Your interior painting ideas do not have to be anything bolder than a splash of vibrant colour on one wall, with by soothing colours on the other walls. This works very well in any room and the vibrant colour that you pick can be either soothing or primal, depending on what you want to show about yourself. You could, of course, always go to extremes and emulsion all the walls a bright vibrant colour or even blend different shades on different walls.

If you’re doing this then you might want to think about the effect you’ll have and whether you can actually live with the colour scheme. Wild and inspired interior painting ideas are all well and good, but you should always take into account whether you’re going to be able to stand the sight of your newly panted walls or not next month. If you are going to have to repaint everything again, it kind of defeats the purpose.

This doesn’t mean that you should restrain your creativity or stifle your interior painting ideas, all it means is that some of the bolder ideas you have, should perhaps be the subject of a small test-run somewhere else.

Don’t think of painting your home as a chore. And, if you want to, you could always think of yourself as Michelangelo or Da Vinci or any of those great artists and create a stunning picture on your walls. The only requirement is that you turn your great interior painting ideas into reality and that you have lots of fun while you’re doing it.

How To Decorate Kids’ Rooms

If you’re unhappy with the way your home looks one of the best things that you can do is to redecorate it. Not necessarily all at once of course, as this can lead to headache upon headache for you and is almost guaranteed to bring stress into your life when you really didn’t need it. However if you start room by room, your redecorating project will become that much easier and simpler to manage.

The next step is to figure out which room you want to decorated first. It’s not always an easy choice to make, but it must be done nevertheless. How about beginning by decorating the kids’ rooms first as this will lead to a general mood of satisfaction amongst them and can help you in the long run too.

Decorating kids rooms can be an enjoyable way to pass the time and also gives you the chance to bond with your children as well. There’s no better way to get closer to your children than by getting down to their level and talking about things that interest them. Decorating their rooms might be the best way to do that.

But where do you start? If you’ve more than one kid you need to be careful about whose room you’re going to decorate first, as things can get tense. Decorating kids rooms can be fraught with tension if you don’t handle it delicately, so I’ve found that the best way to handle it is to flip a coin in the air and have the kids call out heads or tails.

This method might not work however if you’ve got more than two children or more than two rooms to decorate. In which case I’d suggest you just wade in and begin the whole decorating process at once instead of tackling it room by room.

However, at least you’re not redecorating the whole house in one go and this way you encourage a happier mood amongst the children with no-one feeling that they have been done down by getting their room decorated last. What tends to happen though when the you’re decorating the rooms with the kids’ help is that more paint gets splashed everywhere than where it should be. But then that was part of the reason you opted to begin decorating the kids rooms and perhaps even their play areas first, wasn’t it.

You’ll be much happier for at least getting started on your decorating project and your kids will be happier for having their rooms redecorated too, not to mention the sheer fun you’ll be having while you’re busy doing all this. This isn’t of course to say, that decorating kids rooms isn’t hassle or stress free.

On the contrary, you’ll probably get a boatload more stress before you’ve finished, but at least you’ll have had the satisfaction of getting closer to your kids and seeing their rooms clean and tidy for at least one day before the kids move back into them again.
