Interesting Facts About Astronomy

Astronomy is an interesting science to most people because it is filled with loads of astronomy fun facts. Everything from the size and temperature of our own star, the Sun, to the make-up of distant planets has been recorded. All of this information can be retold to entertain and enlighten people.

The Sun is a great source of astronomy fun facts. Our own star, which provides us with all our heat and light is between 91 and 94.5 million miles from Earth. It’s not that nobody has measured the precise distance. It’s because the Earth orbits the Sun in an elliptical, uneven, orbit, so the distance varies depending on where the Earth is situated in that orbit.

The Sun is only an average size star, yet it’s size is another terrific source of astronomy fun facts. As normal as it is, it accounts for about 98% of all the material in our solar system. Even with the huge planet of Jupiter on our side, we’re still a tiny 2% of non Sun material.

It would take the diameter of about 100 Earths to stretch across this average Sun. The solar winds produced by the Sun extends to about 50 times the distance from the Earth to the Sun. Or put another way, those solar winds go out about 50 AU’s. An AU being the distance from the Earth to the Sun, which is quite an fantastic fact, isn’t it?.

What about astronomy fun facts that don’t have anything to do with the Sun then? How about our Moon? It’s the only non-Earth object that man has walked on until now. And one man actually travelled to the Moon but never left it. Dr. Eugene Shoemaker loved the Moon but was rejected as an astronaut. After his death, he was cremated and his ashes were scattered over the Moon by the Lunar Prospector spacecraft in 1999.

There are many more astronomy fun facts about the Moon. It’s the site of what may become the oldest footprint known to man. Neil Armstrong’s giant leap for mankind left a print in the Moon dust that will likely still be there in 10 million years time.

Many people, in fact about 13% of those asked in 1988, still believed the Moon to be made of cheese. And finally the suits worn by the Moon-walking astronauts weighed 180 pounds on Earth but only 30 pounds on the Moon, because of the reduced gravity on the Moon. Talk about an instant diet, eh?

Astronomy fun facts aren’t limited to our close astronomical neighbours. Looking at stars is like looking into the past. Some of the stars we see nowadays in the night sky are so far away that their light takes a million years to reach us. Some of the stars you see may literally be images of stars a million years old that aren’t even there now. There are more than 1 x 10 ^22 stars in the universe. That’s a 1 followed by 22 zeros. And all their planets. The number is really quite staggering.

There are millions of astronomy fun facts and we could relate them forever. But this article can not. So, please, walk out there and learn about astronomy for yourself.

Strategies For Curing Acne

Most sufferers of acne attempt to cure their broken skin with astringent creams, fruit washes, expensive soaps, lotions and treatments. However, the easiest way to cure acne is by altering your diet and avoiding acne-causing things like fried food. A healthy diet, comprising natural unprocessed foods like vegetables, fruits, grains and beans is the first bit of advice for treating acne.

Foodstuffs with trans-fatty acids, milk, milk products, margarine, shortening and man-made hydrogenated vegetable oils, as well as oily foods, should be avoided. It seems that the prevalence of acne in the United States is exacerbated by the typical American diet. Americans typically eat fried food in great quantities, often cooked in the most damaging of fats and oils.

However, not all fats are bad for you, but the fats and oils that the typical American consumes make them more susceptible to develop acne and other skin problems. Products that can cause are ice cream, cheese, bacon, chocolate and milk. Furthermore, acne can’t actually be treated using external skin creams and expensive soaps because the basic cause of the condition exists below the skin.

Pimples, spots and blemishes are produced by bacteria and other irritants lying underneath the skin’s oil glands and hair follicles, which are generally caused as a result of insufficient hygiene, squeezing and poor diet.

This poor diet could be a result of too high a proportion of such items as processed, fatty, fried and sugary foods in your diet. A diet that is good for your skin must consist of raw and lightly cooked vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables that contain valuable trace minerals and are rich in fibre. Fresh green vegetables are essential. You should also include in your diet lean protein sources and complex carbohydrates, such as rice, whole-grain bread and potatoes.

Such fibre-rich foods can help ensure a healthy gastrointestinal tract, which is especially important in the management of acne. You ought to eat three healthy meals every day in order to supply you with sufficient vital nutrients and lower your desire for sweet or/and greasy, fried food.

Moreover, you should eat much more food that is rich in vitamin A, such as apricots, watermelons, and broccoli, along with lean beef, nuts, legumes and whole grains, because they are rich in zinc, which should also be useful in treating acne breakouts. It is also vital to drink plenty of water to help clean out of the body all the toxins that encourage the development of acne.

Speakers For Home Theater

When most people are looking for a sound system, they usually go directly to the speakers. This is not necessarily wrong, but you must not stop there. The speakers are an important part of a sound system, but they are not the be all and end all.

It also essential to consider the player and the amplifier, because any sound system is only as good as its weakest component. Another important topic is the placement of those speakers. It is just as important to position your speakers correctly as it is not to buy cheap speakers. There are also misconceptions about size. Bigger is not always better.

In the past, it was often the case that bigger meant better, but now often the reverse is often the case. Technological advancement has been concentrated on producing smaller speakers, that will take up less room in our smaller houses and smaller cars. Therefore, the smaller speakers are often the most technologically advanced.

If you are going for surround sound, which is the best obtainable today, then you will also have to think carefully about placement. That is the positioning of the speakers. In a typical 5.1 surround sound home theater, you will have six speakers: five ordinary speakers and one sub-woofer.

These speakers would be set out one to the far right of the screen and one to the far left of it and one underneath it. The other two speakers would be at the rear of the audience, but not so far apart as the front speakers. The sub-woofer can go in the centre at the front or the back.

For smaller rooms, a 3.1 surround sound system might be sufficient, that is you leave out the rear speakers. For a larger room, you may want either a 6.1 or 7.1 system. The 6.1 has the rear row of speakers corresponding to the front row, while the 7.1 has an additional middle rear speaker.

It is best if you can buy all your speakers at the same time from the same manufacturer. Obviously, they all have to match each other and the amplifier. The output from the amplifier has to match the capabilities of the speakers or you risk blowing them. That is, giving them more power than they can cope with, which causes too much vibration and permanent damage to the speaker’s internal components. Everyone has heard blown speakers, they sound dreadful.

If you can not afford to get all your speakers at the same time, buy a famous brand and a late-ish model, so that you can get more of them when you can afford to. Do not go for end of line speakers, because they are discounted, unless you can buy all the speakers that you will ever require for your system.

Buy your speakers online, if that gets you the best deal, but you really ought to hear speakers like the ones you are buying in action, before you make up your mind. You could also take your Internet price to the local dealers and ask them to match it. They might, you never know and it will save you carriage too.

The Remodeled Garage Heater

If you have converted your garage into a workshop or home office, you are sure to need heating in one form or another. This is because most garages are not built to the same standards of insulation as the main residential building. However, that need not present a difficulty. You may even have the opposite problem during the summer, as garages often do not have windows, or at least large ones, either.

Ventilation could be another matter that you will have to cope with, but we will come to that later. If you have a plentiful supply of dead wood, you could set up a pot-bellied stove, but you will have to vent the flue outside. This is very easily done, since most garage walls are only one brick or block thick. However, if they do not burn correctly, there can be a smell, which you may find unpleasant.

Or you could use a paraffin/kerosene heater. They are cheap to buy and are readily portable. These heaters do not necessarily have to have a flue. They are easy to turn on as many of them have an electric starter. Some also have a thermostat to control the temperature. They can be a hazard if there are children around as they can be tipped over. However, for most people, the problem would be the smell given off.

You could use an electric hot air heater. They are quite cheap to buy, are very portable and do not require a flue, but they can produce a very dry atmosphere and are expensive to run.

One of the most common choices these days is a gas heater. There are many different types of gas heater, but most run on butane or propane. Most of the models are fairly inexpensive. The main advantage of a gas heater is that they give consistent heat, are fairly cheap to run and are portable. Or at least many of them are.

You could have one built in, but it is hardly worth it, unless you are using gas that needs to be vented. Propane gas heaters also come with or without thermostatic controls. A propane heater could also double as a patio or deck heater on chilly evenings.

These gas heaters come in two forms: vented and unvented. The unvented models are the portable ones. They use the air from the room and the vented models have a flue that vents straight out of the garage. The slight disadvantage of the unvented model is that you have to keep the room airy at all times.

Therefore, if you decide on a portable, unvented propane heater, you must leave a window partly open in order to allow the exchange of air and these heaters can be used as patio or deck heaters during the spring and autumn/fall. However, the vented gas heaters are fixed and have a flue attached, so they cannot be taken outside. Furthermore, if you decide on a vented model, you would be better off getting a professional in to install it for you by the book.

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on many subjects, but is currently involved with the propane outdoor heater. If you are interested in patio heaters too, please click through to Residential Patio Heaters.

Starting An Internet Marketing Business

We have seen new business opportunities grow in recently-invented sectors of activity with the extension of ecommerce. So, how do people make money on the Internet? Well, it does not matter whether we are discussing businesses selling products or services, the basics of whether an Internet business is working out or not is best measured by sales.

The extreme competition has forced small and large companies alike to develop all kinds of strategies to become or remain visible and profitable online. However, because the ways of achieving these goals are highly complex, a new kind of business has appeared: the Internet marketing business. Who are these people and how can they help with business marketing? Firstly, most people do not have any marketing knowledge and understand very little about the methods used to promote a business, create a campaign and support a product or service at the top of a search engine listing.

Internet marketing businesses are most often teams of people with good professional marketing training that have made a profession out of studying the principles of the Internet as a reflection of real-life market transactions. The range of services provided by such companies is vast and comprehensive. Some of them can help you start a business from scratch and build everything you need for online representation, beginning with web page design. What the average service company requires from an Internet marketing business is the creation of advertising campaigns and their monitoring over a prolonged period of time.

The goal of such campaigns is the growth of sales and overall company profitability. However, there are different categories of services that Internet marketing businesses can cover depending on the requirements of the client. Therefore, you can choose between search engine marketing, keyword marketing, web site marketing strategies, sales leads, sales lead management and so on.

The advertising campaign can get even more specific too, so there can be much more selective targeting. So, some companies want to convert visitors into leads, others need to improve their search engine ranking and small businesses very often require local or regional exposure etc..

And last but not at all least, Internet marketing businesses are usually a very good source of tips for the more experienced website developers, who manage the optimization of a suite of their own sites themselves, but who still require tips on ways and means, methods and promotional techniques.

A good example is the choice of the software necessary to optimize a web site and monitor it constantly, improving the activity and increasing the company’s profitability. What is the criteria for recognizing a valuable piece of software? Well, it is not easy, but good software is usually fairly expensive, but it should not be overly so. It should automate rather a lot of the processes required and it has to produce readily understandable reports that you can act on.

Some Facts About Archery

People have been practicing archery for a minimum of four thousand years, but almost certainly for a lot longer than that. Parts of composite recurve bows have been found dating back to the second millennium BC, but the parts that were found were the non-wooden, composite parts, typically of horn.

The wooden sections ordinarily rotted away thousands of years previously, but a wooden longbow from the same period was found in Somerset. Most probably, people had been using all wooden, single piece bows long before they started constructing complex composite recurve bows.

The skill of archery has always enthralled mankind and, in spite of the fact that guns have made archery obsolete, it still fascinates people today, although nowadays archery is practically exclusively used for sporting purposes. It is a thriving sport and hobby and is the national sport of the Kingdom of Bhutan.

If you are interested in taking up archery, you will first have to decide which type of bow you prefer. Among other types, there are the longbow, recurve bow, reflex and decurve bows, deflex bow, pyramid bow and crossbow.

To a certain degree, the arrows are not interchangeable either. For example, a longbow can cast a three foot, heavy-gauge arrow, whereas a crossbow shoots a six inch bolt. The bows also had different uses although there was a certain degree of common ground.

For example, longbows were the heavy, rapid-firing armaments of their day, being able to fling a heavy, armour-piercing arrow hundreds of yards; whereas a short recurve bow was ideal for assault from horseback. Crossbows took less ability to use but were slower than a bow.

There are diverse kinds of arrow too. Historically, arrows were made of wood with a sharp metal tip, but these days arrows can be made of aluminium or carbon fibre. The arrowheads are different for different applications as well. A simple brass tip is sufficient for everyday shooting whereas a ferocious, slashing broadhead is used for killing.

The majority of people who take archery seriously use carbon fibre arrows these days which is the typical arrow shaft in use at the Olympic games. The flights are usually of bird feathers and are used to stabilize the arrow in flight to minimize wobble. Plastic flights are also to be had as they are less prone to damage.

The Welsh (and English) longbow was perhaps the most powerful hand bow widely used. These longbows were typically six feet or more in length and made of one section of seasoned yew (or other woods). The draw weight of a Welsh longbow at the time of Henry VIII was between 160 -180 lbf and that would shoot a heavy three ounce arrow up to about 280 yards.

An explanation of the damage that one of these arrows could wreak was given by Gerald of Wales in the 12th century:

“… in the war against the Welsh, one of the men of arms was struck by an arrow shot at him by a Welshman. It went right through his thigh, high up, where it was protected inside and outside the leg by his iron cuirasses, and then through the skirt of his leather tunic; next it penetrated that part of the saddle which is called the alva or seat; and finally it lodged in his horse, driving so deep that it killed the animal”.

It took years of practice to draw and shoot one of these longbows bows accurately.

Apocalyptic Dates

Predicting the end of the world has probably been going on since man started thinking, whenever that was. It is warned about in Revelations in the Bible, so that must be about 2,000 years ago.

However, it is the predictions of Nostradamus that are the most well-known and most copious. Some biographical accounts of Nostradamus’ life assert that he was afraid of being victimized for heresy by the Inquisition, although neither prophecy nor astrology fell under their jurisdiction. He would have been in danger only if he had practiced magic to back up his predictions.

In fact, his contact with the Church as a prophet and a healer were always excellent. His brief imprisonment at Marignane in late 1561 came about purely because he had published his 1562 Almanac without the previous consent of a bishop, contravening a recent royal decree.

Here then are a few of the prophesies of the ending of the world and the annihilation of mankind.

December 21st, 22nd or 23rd 2012 are all possible dates for the ending of the world according to the ancient Mayan Calendar.

2012 has been determined by some to be the first possible date for the passing by of Planet X (Wormwood) and the demise of the world, as mentioned in Revelations, although this is hotly debated by Biblical experts and astronomers alike.

2012 is also the year given by Nostradamus as the likely end. He gave three possible years for the apocalypse: 1994 and 1998 so this is his last opportunity to be correct.

2010 is the year so says the Hermetic Order of Golden Dawn.

In 1143 St Malachy prophesied that there would be only another 112 more Popes. The current Pope Benedict is the 111th. He also predicted that the final Pope would be known as Peter of Rome, so we will have to wait and see for this one.

2017 is the year specified to the Sword of God Brotherhood by the Angel Gabriel.

November 13th 2026 is the day according to a 1960 copy of ‘Science’ magazine. The writer said that this would be the day that the planet’s human population would ‘reach infinity’.

2033 is held by many to be the 2000th anniversary of the crucifixion of Christ and a possible date for his return, which would signal the end of our Earthly period.

4,500,000,000 AD is the approximate date at which the Sun is expected to explode and in so doing, destroy the inner solar system including our Earth. Nobody knows, but unless we destroy ourselves first, this latter date is probably the most accurate and scientific date for the destruction of the planet.

Autopilot Profits

I’ve been an Internet marketer for several years and I own a few different sorts of online business activities. However, because I am a sole trader, working on my own and necessarily having only a set number of hours per day, my business activities also have their natural limits. After all, no one can spend 16 hours a day working for weeks and weeks on end and still produce good work, especially if they have other commitments too.

So, the size of an enterprise is limited by the number of people working for it or put another way, by the number of man-hours devoted to it. I suppose that what I’m trying to say is that it’s hard to make a good salary when you work by yourself.

And so, keeping this in mind, I have been looking for methods to automate parts of my business for quite some time, although I have already made a few moves in this direction. For instance, I have stopped writing HTML ‘by hand’ for a long while and bought a super HTML editor, which I will tell you about one day; I moved to a web-hosting firm that offers unlimited autoresponders amongst other great features and I hire some fantastic article submission software.

But, that left me with little more time nor money than previously, although I was operating several times as many sites as before and still doing it all on my own. I knew that there must be something I was missing, but I didn’t know what it was.

Then, one day I came across an article on the subject and it kind of made sense, no blinding flash or anything like of that sort, but a slow dawning over a few hours that the article was talking about something like I wanted it to be.

Anyway, I bought the ebook and have followed its advice ever since without looking back. I now work just the same hours as before, but I operate ten times as many websites and the money is far better.

You may be wondering, how that could be? Well, the truth of the matter is that this ebook revealed to me how to intertwine all the processes of marketing and developing websites, so that they can take care of themselves for longer periods of time. The time I used to spend on tinkering with websites and SEO to put right minor errors or things I’d omitted, I now put into new projects.

Nowadays, my websites, once they have been set up, need fairly little maintenance, which means that I can do something else with the extra time. I like to work, but others could choose to take the time off. It’s really difficult to think of a better deal.

This intriguing ebook on automating your profits will give you at least a day out of five off and maybe even more and that makes it worth looking into on its own right. The ebook is fully guaranteed for 90 days, with a full, no-quibble, money-back guarantee, so you have nothing to lose. Moreover, I promise you that you will learn how to put your Internet business on autopilot and learn how to use your time more usefully.

The Growth Of California And Gold Fever

In January 1848, James Marshall was overseeing the building of a saw mill for his boss, when he saw an odd rock glinting in the upturned earth.

He was not sure whether it was gold or not and did not want to get people’s aspirations up. So Marshall attempted to break the yellow rock with a hammer. It did not crack, but it did dent. just like gold would. The woman who was cooking meals for the saw mill construction crew, tried another test by boiling the rock in lye.

They boiled it all day, but it did not change colour. So, they handed the rock over to the mill’s owner, Mr. John Sutter, who also carried out a few tests. In the end, everyone agreed that this rock was indeed gold.

It seems that the Sierra Nevada Mountains hid huge hordes of gold, but that over tens of thousands of years, erosion had loosened up gold nuggets and the mountain streams flushed them down to the bottom of the mountains. Sutter’s property was situated between two rivers and so was likely to generate great wealth.

Sutter had plans to build an agricultural empire on his 39,000 acres of land, so he asked his employees to keep stum about the strike. However, as is to be expected, word got out. In due course news of the gold strike reached the small town of San Francisco.

There, a newspaper publisher shouted down the streets: “Gold from the American River!” and within three days of the news arriving, 400 of the 600 inhabitants had set out for Sutter’s land. It was a groundswell and by the end of the year, gold prospectors had traveled to California from as far away as Mexico and Chile.

When word of the gold strike got to the east coast, President Polk confirmed the discovery. It was December 1848 and ‘The Gold Rush’ became a national and even a global event. The gold miners of 1849 and later years became known as forty-niners.

What has to be borne in mind is though, that most people, who came from Canada, Mexico and the eastern United States came by wagon train, as there were not locomotive! This meant a arduous trek of between six and nine months

Nonetheless, at least 32,000 people actually walked to California in 1849, and about 44,000 more got there in 1850. Others, such as South Americans, faced an awful journey by sea. They underwent storms, shipwrecks, hunger and thirst, disease, and overcrowding and after all that, some still had to undergo mule rides through jungles and deserts! In spite of everything, in under a year, about 40,000 people arrived in San Francisco from overseas.

The new arrivals constituted a dramatic change in California’s population, because in 1848, California had had about 100,000 residents, most of whom were Native Americans, but within two years, the state populace more than doubled but the variety of ethnicity increased tens of times.

Some prospectors found gold and made a fortune in the Californian riverbeds, but most people did not become rich in the Gold Rush. When gold was found, the cache was usually cleared quickly. James Marshall had little achievement as a miner, and he died impoverished. John Sutter, who had once owned 39,000 acres, left California in serious debt after miners flattened his land.

In fact, it was simpler to make money selling shovels and other provisions to the miners. Most people lost everything they had, so they stayed to work the vast expanse called California or to set up businesses. By 1856, San Francisco had a very multi-ethnic population of over 50,000 people and California had become the most exhilarating state in the country.

Chinese New Year Dishes

There are few festivities celebrated around the world on the identical grand scale that the Chinese New Year is celebrated. This is an occasion that affects people all around the globe. The festivities are rather exotic and a lot of fun for everyone who takes part. One thing that many outsiders may not appreciate is that the majority of the aspects of the Chinese New Year celebrations have a very precise purpose and connotation. Even the food.

Whether you are Chinese are not, I ‘m certain that you could use a degree of good luck to make things run a little more smoothly in your life.

When it comes to cooking for a Chinese New Year celebration there are a few things you have to keep in mind. The dishes that are prepared each have their very own significance and a definite reason for being cooked.

Dumplings are supposed to bring riches in the New Year to those who eat them on this special day. Of course, wealth is something that most people want to have and there are many ways of doing so. Other foods that symbolize the attainment of wealth on the Chinese New Year are bamboo shoots, black moss seaweed, egg rolls, and oranges. This is just the beginning of the lesson in the symbolic nature of dishes for the Chinese New Year.

Longevity or long life is something else that the Chinese famously long for. Eternal youth some may term it. The secret, they say, to a long life is the consumption of the right food as part of the New Year celebrations. Those foodstuffs include: noodles, Chinese garlic, chives, and peanuts.

Success is attributed to foods such as lettuce, whole fish, and pomelo. In addition to success whole fish and pomelo are believed to bring abundance and togetherness (as in marriage or romance) during the coming year.

Chicken is the main course if happiness is the goal. In addition, chicken is associated with marriage, particularly when served with foods, which are considered to be dragon foods, such as lobster.

Those planning on having children in the near future should add eggs, seeds (such as watermelon seeds) and pomelo – especially the last two, if you want a couple of children.

Finally, if good luck is what you most need, try to add a tangerine or some seaweed to your plate on this special day. If your run of luck has been really very bad of late, you may want to double up on your helping of both.

The Internet contains masses of delicious recipes to help you commemorate the Chinese New Year as traditionally as you can. Recipes for foods such as Jiaozi (Chinese noodles) and egg rolls are to be found online and they will go some way towards creating the proper atmosphere. Add a few lettuce wraps and longevity noodles and you will have a good basis for a Chinese New Year meal.

The only other thing you require then to make your Chinese New Year celebrations go with a bang (quite literally) is fireworks. The Chinese New Year would not be the same without them, so choose your food carefully, either buy it or cook it (or both) and then let off your fireworks safely for a great winters evening’s entertainment.
