The Benefits Of Buying Decent Clothing

One of the strangest social or cultural phenomena since the Second World War is the change in criteria which individuals use to purchase garments. For thousands of years before then, people wanted the best possible clothing that they could get and one of the criteria that they used to judge each other was their dress sense or the quality of their clothes.

This all started to change in the Seventies when it became more significant to not be seen wearing the same article too often, so it became more desirable to have five cheap shirts that would not last long than to have one high quality shirt that would last for years. How did this shift in principles come about?

The most obvious people to blame are the fashion designers (or their imitators) and the advertisers. Individuals without much money to spend on clothes do not like to be seen in the same blue shirt on every other occasion, they would rather have several colours, but perhaps these individuals do not understand the difference in the quality.

The quality of one’s clothing is vital as most women and about half as many men know. First impressions count and bright and cheerful (but cheap) is not as impressive to those who know the difference as quality.

To those people who say that the person should count more than the clothing, I would say ‘Yes, in a perfect world. One day, but it is not the way it works now’. Why do people dress up for a date, and especially the first date? Why do individuals dress up for an interview? And why do individuals dress up to go to court?

It is because clothing matters and first impressions count and deep down, we all know it even though most of us wish that it did not matter so much.

First of all, it is important to find a style that suits you. Then you should buy items of clothing that are decent examples of that style. They will not be cheap, but is a Hell’s Angel’s leather jacket cheap? Absolutely not. Whatever niche you think you fit into or would like to fit into, purchase the appropriate clothing to stand out for quality.

I am not saying that people have to dress appropriate to their age group, I am saying that people should dress appropriate to the upper echelons of their niche group. If you would like to become a Hell’s Angel, get one of the best leather jackets and if you want to work in an office, buy yourself a good suit. Just because you cannot tell the difference between a cheap one and a decent one does not mean that your peers cannot as well.

You just have so much scope to modify your physical appearance, but you can still make a big impression by wearing quality clothing like a decent overcoat, a good suit, a good cardigan or a decent shirt. The people who know the difference will notice and it will not damage your prospects.

Wearing Designer Clothing

Wearing designer clothing was not done in our household whilst I was growing up, but then with five children, my parents probably did not have sufficient money to encourage us to think of wearing designer clothing. That has stayed with me and I do not think about wearing designer clothing even now that I can afford them.

However, nowadays, most children seem to be conscious of designer clothing. This probably shows the power of marketing and the fact that modern advertisers are more ruthless in targeting children than there antecedents in the Fifties and Sixties were.

The difficulty with children wanting to wear designer clothing though is that they do not understand why they ought to wear a particular item, they only see the adverts and the fact that their idols and friends are wearing them.

There is a decent case for wearing designer clothing but imitation is not one of them. Neither is having been persuaded to by advertisers and friends. The only good reason for preferring designer clothing is because you like a designer’s style and theme. Most designers have a particular style although this can be modified from year to year.

A great deal of designers splatter their names all over their clothes, which ruins them for me. However, all clothing designers like to have their name or logo in a prominent position. They do this for two reasons: firstly to promote because otherwise their clothing is not distinctive enough ( a Lacrosse sweater without the crocodile is unrecognizable); and secondly, so that the wearer can show off the fact that they are wearing designer clothing.

Frequently clothing designers will branch out into other areas of designer wear. For example, Gucci sanction shoes, sunglasses and wrist watches. Gucci is hoping that if you like their shoes you will also try their sunglasses and wrist watches as well. In fact, this tactic works well. Wearers of designer clothing build up a relationship with the designers that they like and are more likely to have confidence in that brand.

The difficulty for most people is the price. Designer clothing is a lot more costly than regular clothing and that is how it is meant to be, because part of the rationale for wearing designer clothing is snob value – to set yourself apart from the herd. This permits clothing designers to earn vast profits which opens up another difficulty – counterfeiting.

Where there is a opportunity of big profits you will find counterfeits, fakes or duds.If you are inexpert at recognizing designer clothing, you could easily be sucked into spending a lot of money on counterfeit items. Often it is not the clothing itself that is copied, although that is done as well, but the accessories are copied a great deal.

I have no statistics, but I would not be surprised if there are ten times as many phony Gucci sunglasses in the world as real ones. So be cautious, especially if you do not have sight of what you are purchasing, as in the case of the Net and be careful of market stalls and back street bulk traders.

How To Go Shopping For Clothing On Line

Shopping for clothing on line is becoming more and more popular each day and one of the major sellers is clothing. There are lots of kinds of on line clothing retailers: there are on line clothing retailers that are Net versions of high street clothing shops and there are on line clothing sellers which just sell on line.

You may think that it is strange to want to buy clothing without being able to see it or try it on, but in fact there is a long history of people purchasing clothing from catalogues, which is practically the same as buying on line. Purchasing on line is convenient for people who do not like shopping, do not have time to go shopping or who live a long way from decent clothing stores.

If you are not certain which on line clothing retailers you can trust, you are probably better off ordering from shops that you already know from the shopping mall. Shops like Marks and Spencer, Abercrombie, Next, C and A, Walmart and Sears. Some of these on line stores hold a tremendous range of stock.

For instance, not every Marks and Spencer store may carry Mark’s full assortment of clothing, but their on line operation carries everything that Marks sells anywhere. There may also be extraordinary offers and discounts that are only available to on line shoppers.

As I said earlier, there is a long tradition of buying clothing from a catalogue, so there are fairly sophisticated size charts and systems for measuring sizes correct the first time. If you exercise the same amount of caution whilst you purchase on line as you would if you were purchasing from a catalogue, you will not go far wrong. If you do make a mistake though or the quality is not what you had hoped for, you can usually return the garment.

Pay scrupulous attention to the sales and returns policies before you spend time looking through the shop’s catalogue of clothing. After all, if the conditions are not favourable, you will not want to order from the company anyway. If the company’s policies are acceptable, read the product descriptions carefully as well. Purchasing on line is not always quicker, but it is more handy

If you are still unsure about buying clothing on line, you could stick to ordering items of clothing with which you are accustomed and the size of which never changes. Items such as shoes, hats, socks, underwear, scarves, gloves and overcoats. Overcoats are easy to measure for as most sizes only go on the chest measurement. Likewise with shoes. Everyone knows their shoe size an then it is just a question of the fitting: standard, wide or extra-wide.

It is quite straight forward to go shopping for clothing on line and it is safe too. You can pay for your goods directly with your credit card, but you can increase your level of protection by paying through PayPal. It is easy to open an account and then you can pay via your credit card as well. If you have a problem both PayPal and your credit card firm will take up your cause.

Dressing For A Change

Have you decided that you want a change of image? Or would you merely like to smarten yourself up a bit? Perhaps you have a new career with new colleagues and you want to take this chance to dress a bit more elegantly. Sometimes individuals like to transform their image whilst they are looking for or have recently discovered a new partner.

Whilst changing one’s image most people will focus on a new hair style and smarter clothes. Women might go for smart trouser suits or power dresses and men might make a decision to wear a lounge suit or a jacket and tie more frequently. If the weather is bad a costly overcoat always completes the image, especially suede, cashmere or leather. It used to be that fur was de rigeur, but now it is duh.

However, there is another way of changing your image, a way that need not be that costly, although sometimes it takes courage to attempt it. That is the wearing or the using of accessories. Women have more scope here in numerous ways, but men have options as well.

Women can sport something in their new hair style; they can co-ordinate bags and shoes; they can wear a different kind of stockings or could begin wearing gloves, white kid, for example. They could modify the style of jewelery they wear and the colour or their hair and lipstick. Belts, brooches, watches and scarves can also serve the end of changing ones image. They could also wear a fresh flower on their lapel, in their hair or behind their ear for that old style gypsy look :-) (that is the brave one).

Men have a slightly harder time of it without looking daft, but men can wear better shoes, wear a tie more frequently or an expensive watch. They could carry a briefcase and an umbrella, and wear a flower in their button hole, but this is where it begins to look a bit contrived. They could also wear a monocle, a pocket watch or a bow tie.

My cousin wears a monocle and once you overcome your first instinct to laugh, you have to admit that he looks fairly elegant. The same is true of bow ties, which he wears as well and insists on tying it by hand. He also carries an umbrella, a briefcase and wears pinstripes. He is very brave and he is noticed and remembered wherever he goes.

However, you do not need to go that far. Even merely wearing a bow tie instead of a tie will set you apart. Have you noticed that if you are talking to someone wearing a bow tie you cannot stop looking at it? It is the men’s equivalent of a woman’s low-cut dress.

Anyway, accessories are a less expensive way of altering your image than going out and buying a new wardrobe of outfits and they are more easily combined that different suits. Go for colours that combine easily, like blacks, greys, browns and off-whites. Understatement is usually better than garish.

Retirement Gifts For Golfers

There is a common belief that golf is the normal pastime-cum-sport of big shot entrepreneurs and businessmen. It is also perceived as being an exclusive sport and not accessible by regular blue collared employees. However, this is not the reality as modernization and commercialization have brought these so called elite sports into the reach of ordinary workers.

This is because there is no need to have sophisticated equipment to have a game, so, unlike big game fishing and polo which require very costly resources like a boat or a horse respectively, golfers just require a set of golf clubs, which are reasonably affordable. With this in mind, retirement gifts for golfers and would-be golfers can be easily thought of.

Making personalized retirement gifts for golfers is quite an easy task as you can easily personalize your golfing equipment with items such as home made golf club pouches, and caddy covers and ball cleaners. These can be knitted or made using any handicraft requiring other materials.

Another idea is to think about the fashion aspect of golfing which is to focus on the things worn by a golfer. You may even start a new trend in golfing apparel just by having a good imagination and using a timely combination of clothing design for your retiree.

The most common method of getting a retirement gift for golfers is to go along to the nearest sports shop and get your retiree something sold there. It may sound a little impersonal to just get the retiree a commercially sold gift, but then this may prove really useful if the retiree is still a novice golfer. Perhaps you could get a book on golfing or a subscription to a golfing magazine.

However, you could find out what your retiree golfer still needs, and perhaps also use your imagination to think about in what ways you can enhance the golfing equipment he may already have.

Commercially made golfing equipment is always a safe bet. If you want to make your retiree feel great, buy him or her a famous-name set of golf clubs, thereby making him feel like a professional.

You could even go to a joke shop and ask if they have any joke items for the golfer there. They probably do, as golfing is such a popular sport.

Gag gifts should be chosen very carefully since they could raise sensitive matters for the retiree, especially novice players. Gags as gifts in relation to golfing might be taken the wrong way and put them off, if they are upset by the idea suggested by the gag or joke given to them.

As for veteran players who are already well adapted to the game, the gift of a good gag on their retirement day would be quite funny since they would already see golfing not only as a way to relieve stress, but also to actually have some fun in a competitive environment.

Retirement gifts for golfers are really just an easy method to make your golfer friend enjoy life after his career is over.
