Strategies For Curing Acne

Most sufferers of acne attempt to cure their broken skin with astringent creams, fruit washes, expensive soaps, lotions and treatments. However, the easiest way to cure acne is by altering your diet and avoiding acne-causing things like fried food. A healthy diet, comprising natural unprocessed foods like vegetables, fruits, grains and beans is the first bit of advice for treating acne.

Foodstuffs with trans-fatty acids, milk, milk products, margarine, shortening and man-made hydrogenated vegetable oils, as well as oily foods, should be avoided. It seems that the prevalence of acne in the United States is exacerbated by the typical American diet. Americans typically eat fried food in great quantities, often cooked in the most damaging of fats and oils.

However, not all fats are bad for you, but the fats and oils that the typical American consumes make them more susceptible to develop acne and other skin problems. Products that can cause are ice cream, cheese, bacon, chocolate and milk. Furthermore, acne can’t actually be treated using external skin creams and expensive soaps because the basic cause of the condition exists below the skin.

Pimples, spots and blemishes are produced by bacteria and other irritants lying underneath the skin’s oil glands and hair follicles, which are generally caused as a result of insufficient hygiene, squeezing and poor diet.

This poor diet could be a result of too high a proportion of such items as processed, fatty, fried and sugary foods in your diet. A diet that is good for your skin must consist of raw and lightly cooked vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables that contain valuable trace minerals and are rich in fibre. Fresh green vegetables are essential. You should also include in your diet lean protein sources and complex carbohydrates, such as rice, whole-grain bread and potatoes.

Such fibre-rich foods can help ensure a healthy gastrointestinal tract, which is especially important in the management of acne. You ought to eat three healthy meals every day in order to supply you with sufficient vital nutrients and lower your desire for sweet or/and greasy, fried food.

Moreover, you should eat much more food that is rich in vitamin A, such as apricots, watermelons, and broccoli, along with lean beef, nuts, legumes and whole grains, because they are rich in zinc, which should also be useful in treating acne breakouts. It is also vital to drink plenty of water to help clean out of the body all the toxins that encourage the development of acne.

The Remodeled Garage Heater

If you have converted your garage into a workshop or home office, you are sure to need heating in one form or another. This is because most garages are not built to the same standards of insulation as the main residential building. However, that need not present a difficulty. You may even have the opposite problem during the summer, as garages often do not have windows, or at least large ones, either.

Ventilation could be another matter that you will have to cope with, but we will come to that later. If you have a plentiful supply of dead wood, you could set up a pot-bellied stove, but you will have to vent the flue outside. This is very easily done, since most garage walls are only one brick or block thick. However, if they do not burn correctly, there can be a smell, which you may find unpleasant.

Or you could use a paraffin/kerosene heater. They are cheap to buy and are readily portable. These heaters do not necessarily have to have a flue. They are easy to turn on as many of them have an electric starter. Some also have a thermostat to control the temperature. They can be a hazard if there are children around as they can be tipped over. However, for most people, the problem would be the smell given off.

You could use an electric hot air heater. They are quite cheap to buy, are very portable and do not require a flue, but they can produce a very dry atmosphere and are expensive to run.

One of the most common choices these days is a gas heater. There are many different types of gas heater, but most run on butane or propane. Most of the models are fairly inexpensive. The main advantage of a gas heater is that they give consistent heat, are fairly cheap to run and are portable. Or at least many of them are.

You could have one built in, but it is hardly worth it, unless you are using gas that needs to be vented. Propane gas heaters also come with or without thermostatic controls. A propane heater could also double as a patio or deck heater on chilly evenings.

These gas heaters come in two forms: vented and unvented. The unvented models are the portable ones. They use the air from the room and the vented models have a flue that vents straight out of the garage. The slight disadvantage of the unvented model is that you have to keep the room airy at all times.

Therefore, if you decide on a portable, unvented propane heater, you must leave a window partly open in order to allow the exchange of air and these heaters can be used as patio or deck heaters during the spring and autumn/fall. However, the vented gas heaters are fixed and have a flue attached, so they cannot be taken outside. Furthermore, if you decide on a vented model, you would be better off getting a professional in to install it for you by the book.

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on many subjects, but is currently involved with the propane outdoor heater. If you are interested in patio heaters too, please click through to Residential Patio Heaters.

Treating Acne Scars

Acne scars are an awful memento of the having suffered pimples or even acne before. They are intolerable because of their seeming permanence and their non-complimentary appearance. Normally speaking, acne scars are rather hard to eradicate, but tissue regeneration is not unusual these days with all the amazing technological advancements.

In general terms, when referring to acne scarring, we are referring to the healed lesions caused by an acne infection. While most scars are temporary and disappear naturally in time, those from the more severe forms of acne can become permanent.

Acne scars can be prevented if the sufferer sees a doctor when it is in the incipient stage, especially if nodules or cysts accompany the red pustules on the skin’s surface. If the bouts of acne have marked your skin, you will have to approach the problem from a different perspective, which usually involves surgery.

Laser resurfacing is one possibility of removing the damaged skin areas and stimulating the natural regeneration of the tissue underneath. This procedure only requires local anaesthesia and can take between a few minutes and an hour depending on the extent of the damage.

Fractional laser therapy is one of the most recent forms of removing acne scarring. It involves surgical intervention at deep skin layers. The therapy is superior to both dermabrasion and laser resurfacing in terms of quality and involves a much reduced healing period. Nevertheless, fractional laser therapy is within the reach of only those few fortunate people, who can afford it, since it is the most expensive acne treatment available so far.

Sometimes, other sessions are required to improve the condition of the upper layers of skin, before they can tackle the deep level treatment of the acne scar. The doctor may inject collagen into the scars in order to raise the normal skin level or she/he may recommend micro-dermabrasion for the very same purpose. Trying to perform chemical peels for acne treatment at home could be a bad policy given the risk of aggravating the condition by irritating the scars even more.

As for the kinds of acne scars, they can be grouped by the way they look. Scars can result because of an increase of tissue or due to a loss of tissue They both have an adverse impact on the way the face looks. Specialists’ evaluation of the nature of the scars is a very important factor in deciding on the adoption of one kind of treatment or the other.

Acne Is Not The Same As Spots

There are several different kinds of acne, depending on how or why the acne started. Some of the forms of acne are: acne conglobata (chronic boils); acne fulminans (an extreme form of conglobata); acne cosmetica (caused by cosmetics); acne keloidalis nuchae (from shaving); acne medicamentosa (caused by starting or stopping a medication); acne rosacea (redness on the face); baby acne; hormonal acne; cloracne and the common variety, acne vulgaris (also known as ‘puberty spots’). In this article, we will concentrate on acne vulgaris.

Acne vulgaris may be described as: ‘an inflammatory disease of the skin, caused by changes in the pilosebaceous units (skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland). Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples, spots or zits’ (from Wikipedia).

Acne is most common in white Western teens, although it does occur in every country in the world, so there could be a genetic predisposition to it. It is possible that it may be an exceptional reaction to fairly normal levels of testosterone. For most sufferers, the condition lasts only until adulthood, probably only a few years or at the most ten. For other people, however, it can be a life-long affliction. It most often affects the face, upper-chest, upper-arms and back. However, an occasional spot does not constitute acne.

Acne vulgaris appears in various forms, which include: whiteheads, resulting from pores which are totally blocked, trapping sebum (oil), bacteria, and dead skin cells, resulting in a white spot on the top; blackheads, resulting from pores which are only partially blocked, allowing some of the trapped sebum, bacteria, and dead skin cells to slowly drain to the surface (the black colour is not caused by dirt, but is a reaction of the skin’s own pigment, called melanin, with the oxygen in the air); papules, which are inflamed, red, tender lumps with no head and pustules, which are like whiteheads, but are inflamed, and look like red circles with a white or yellow centre.

Whiteheads do not often last for a long time; blackheads do last a long time and pustules are what people usually refer to as spots or zits. Severe acne vulgaris is distinguished by nodules and cysts. A ‘nodule’ is a rather larger and much more painful type of pustule and can sometimes last for months. Nodules are large, hard lumps just under the skin. They often result in scarring and should never for any reason be squeezed, since this could make them last for months longer.

A ‘cyst’ can look like a nodule, but it is full of pus and has been described as having a diameter of at least 5mm and, again, can leave scars and cause pain. Squeezing an acne cyst may cause a deeper infection and more painful inflammation which may last very much longer than if it had not been squeezed. Skin experts have methods of reducing the swelling and preventing scarring with both nodules and cysts. It is not true that acne sufferers are not meticulous about washing.

In fact, excessive washing can irritate acne. There are many, many useless ‘treatments’ on the market and many, many old wives’ remedies, but any good dermatologist would advise you that there is no known cure for acne and that the patient should follow a strict regimen of cleaning until the acne just ‘goes away’ of its own accord.

Chronic Tension Headaches – What Can I Do?

There are so many sorts of headache and headaches are so familiar, that there is a very good chance that everyone you know has had them or still gets them. The reasons why people have headaches are just as wide-ranging. It could be stress, over-medication, migraine, lack of calories or tension. One of the worst types is chronic tension headaches.

A normal tension headache feels as if a belt is being done up tightly around your forehead, but they do not have a tendency to last very long and they are infrequent. A chronic tension headache is the same, but it may come every day or even a couple of times a day. A headache is classified as a chronic tension headache if you get a tension headache more than fifteen times in a month for several consecutive months.

Therefore, if you suspect that you are suffering from this type of headache, start to write notes in a diary. When? Where? How bad? How long it lasted? And anything else that you think may be relevant, like what you have eaten or drunken that day and the day before. You may notice a connection to work or diet.

Some sufferers describe the pain as like having a very tight belt wrapped around their head, others say the feeling of constraint goes down as far as their shoulders. In general, sufferers of tension and chronic tension headaches are in agreement, that the pain is strongest in the forehead, then along the sides of the head and sometimes at the back as well.

They say that the normal level of pain is a dull ache which can be mild to moderate in strength. It is more of a niggling, always-on pain than a piercing, distracting pain.

Chronic tension headaches appear to be early risers, that is, some people wake up with them and others say that they start just after they get up in the morning. It is as if the contemplation of the day ahead is just too much too bear. The pain can intensify at certain times of the day, or it can simply slowly slip away practically unobserved.

Chronic tension headaches are nowhere near as common as normal tension headaches, but they are twice as common in women as in men.

The main issue with these headaches, besides the ache itself, is that they become a routine occurrence. You wait for it to happen, you are that sure that it will accompany you throughout the day as normal. The pain can just become one permanent drag on your life.

For this reason, sufferers of CTH are often vulnerable to depression and anxiety and it is difficult to know which came first, the CTH or the depression / anxiety and which is causing which. If you think this could be your problem, do not try to cure the headaches yourself, go to see a doctor about the depression or anxiety, have that sorted out and the chronic tension headaches may disappear too without any further medication.

Patio Furniture

If you have a lovely patio or deck or a beautiful garden, then you need to have good patio furniture in order to get pleasure from it. There is no finer end to a busy day than sitting outside on the patio with a drink and a newspaper or a book. I like to sit in the garden after the sun has weakened a little, but before the mosquitoes come out, for a few hours reading a book.

There are many different styles of patio furniture to choose from that range from classic to modern. There is also a full range of choice in that there are chairs, loungers, swinging sofas, tables, outdoor fridges, barbecue sets and patio heaters amongst other things. A full set need not cost more than $1,000, but you can start with a table and two chairs and build up your patio furniture set step by step.

The many options you have when looking for patio furniture are the designs and the matter it is made from. Most patio furniture stays outside all day and all night in any weather, so it important to get furniture that is well-made and weather-proof. All weather furniture is normally made from plastic-coated steel, wicker, massive wood or moulded plastic.

Whatever you pick, make sure that the guarantee makes your choice worth the money. For example, I mean, if the furniture costs $200, and has a 12 month warranty, then you should be prepared to pay $4 a week for your investment and everything else is a bonus.

Another tip is to buy your patio furniture from a dependable manufacturer or a trustworthy retailer, unless it is massive timber furniture in which case you will want a trustworthy local craftsman. It depends where you live of course, but any patio furniture is going to have a hard time of it and it will remain outside sometimes no matter what your intentions are now.

Standard plastic patio furniture is pretty good and will stand up to all but the coldest of weather, which can make it become fragile. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can have the same effect on cheap plastic chairs. White is the usual colour, but there are others. Make sure that you buy something that will take your weight, especially if you are a bit on the heavy side. I have had legs of plastic chairs go on me, but luckily I was on grass both times. On concrete or near the edge of raised decking could be very dangerous.

Once you have chosen your patio table, chairs and possibly loungers, there are one or two other things that I think are essential to allowing the complete enjoyment of your patio deck. For example, if you want to use your outdoor furniture in the evening you may find it nippy or you may be troubled by insects.

This need not be a problem. You can get a patio heater for quite a reasonable price. A gas patio heater will keep up to eight people lovely and warm. To complete your patio furniture set, you might want a mosquito trap of some kind.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on many topics, but is currently involved with commercial patio heaters. If you are interested in patio heaters too, please click through to Residential Patio Heaters.

Stopping Common Indoor Bugs

Some of the most common indoor bugs we see anywhere in the world are flies, spiders, fleas and beetles. No-one likes to see a bug in the house, so most people will go to almost any extremes to eradicate these common indoor bugs. The less common indoor bugs may be woodlice, earwigs, scorpions and millipedes or centipedes, although they are no less unwelcome.

It does not matter where you live in the world, it is very difficult to keep these common indoor bugs outside, unless you go to the extremes of keeping all your windows and doors closed all of the time, which is obviously impossible. I live in Thailand and I know that this is not an option.

So, just what can you do about it? Well, let’s sort out all the flying bugs first, as of all the common indoor bugs, I find them the most obnoxious indoor bug. They are very annoying, buzzing around your head and mosquitoes and other flies can produce painful sores and besides that, all flies spread disease. I hate to see them strutting about on food, knowing that they have more than likely just come off some dung heap somewhere and now they are spitting on my food in order to taste it with their grubby feet!

My first line of defence is fine-mesh door and widow screens. They are not dear and can be fitted retrospectively to any window. My window meshes slide, so they will cover only one half of the window at a any one time, but I do not find that a problem. You can still set up cross-winds, by opening two or more windows at opposing sides of a room. I love to see the flies on the mesh struggling to get in by day and the mosquitoes doing the same by night. At night, it is best to turn on as little light indoors as possible in order not to draw these common indoor bugs.

My second line of defence is natural predators – lizards, like Geckos (Jin Jok, in Thai). Some people don’t like them in the house either. I can’t say I’m all that keen on them indoors myself, but they are hard to keep out and they do eat hundreds, if not thousands, of indoor bugs every day. I like to see them lying in wait on the outside of the mesh, ready to pounce on any bug trying to wriggle its way through the wires.

My third line of defence is a handheld bug zapper. You know, the electric, handheld bug zapper that looks like a toy tennis racquet. The come in two forms: battery and rechargeable kinds. They are brilliant at trapping and destroying any flying indoor bug. The bug literally explodes and vaporizes on contact with the fully-charged wires of the indoor bug zapper. If you haven’t tried using one, you really should. They are most gratifying. These three defences keep our house quite much free of flies.

The creeping common indoor insects are not so much of a problem really. Door screens on springs will keep 99% of them out and the Geckos will help too. Spiders can get in fairly easily, but then, I don’t mind them too much as long as they stay away from me, as they eat other bugs too. They are on our side to be honest. However, for those who can not bear to catch them and put them outside, the handheld indoor bug zapper works a treat on spiders too.

Fleas can sometimes be a problem, if you keep cats or dogs, but then if you wash or dust the animal once a month, you should be able to keep these common indoor bugs under control fairly easily. However, there are two final measures that we use. Once a week, before we go out for the day, we spray every room with fly killer and every six-months we spray any rugs or carpets with an insect killer containing permethrin, which will survive washing and vacuuming for that long without losing its ability to kill common indoor bugs on contact. If you follow these methods, you should be able to keep your home or office quite free of the most common indoor bugs and the less common indoor bug as well.

Have you ever used an indoor bug zapper? If not, or if you want to get an indoor bug zapper, just click one of the hyperlinks to our web site or blog.

Golfing For Beginners: Part I

The sport of golf has really boomed in public awareness over the last 45 years. It has produced fantastic world-champions such as Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman and Tiger Woods and world-renowned courses like St. Andrews, Sunningdale, Pinehurst ans Augusta.

But why should golfing have become so poplar with the public? Surely, it must be because a round of golf is a leisurely, but nevertheless, active, outdoor pursuit with a competitive side that can be enjoyed with friends but that can never be mastered.

Your scorecard, over time, will demonstrate your improvement, which keeps you playing time and time again.

This is the first lesson for the novice golfer who doesn’t know anything about golfing.

A round of golf is usually played on an eighteen hole course. Each hole has its ‘par’, which is the total number of tee shots (drives), fairway shots, chips (short shots near the ‘green’) and putts on the green, it should take to sink the golfball in the hole.

This ‘par’ value is based on the length and difficulty of the hole in question. Pars range from three to six, so if you get the ball into the hole in four shots on a ‘par four’ hole, you made ‘par’. However, if you took three shots, it’s called a ‘birdie’ or five shots a ‘bogie’.

All the holes on a golf course will have at least one ‘hazard’ to make the game more challenging and therefore more interesting. These hazards are usually: sand traps, trees and bodies of water, which are set up in such a way as to be obstructive. A beginner at golf should seek out a course which has fewer and less obstructive hazards so it is easier to play.

Players mark their own scorecard with the cumalative total of shots taken for each hole. After playing all the holes, the players add up their own scorecards and the one with the lowest score is the winner.

It is important for beginner golfers to not take themselves too seriously. It takes a long time to get good at this game; even though the professionals make it look so easy.

Take a lesson or two at the start of your golfing ‘career’, because it will help you develop a proper swing and help you get off to a good start.

Are you a rookie to golfing?? We have some great tips for the beginner golfer at Golfing Tips for Beginners

Should You Be Getting Anxious Over Anxiety Depression?

Many people who over extend themselves, use up not only all their physical strength, but they also tend to over-extend their mental powers to the point where they obviously need a proper holiday.

Many busy people who are unable to understand the idea of relaxing and taking time of from work, as well as from their worries, have nervous breakdowns, anxiety depression and all sorts of mental illnesses that cause a person’s mental health to go haywire. Luckily, if you are one of those people who is unable to relax and who is always worried and fussing over things, there are various cures and treatments available for dealing with anxiety depression.

Anxiety depression is actually characterized by all kinds of strange behaviour and erratic mood swings in the person suffering from it. This is usually due to specific stress triggers. Furthermore, many people who tend to become easily worked up over stressful situations are in fact prone to having anxiety depression. It is actually a matter of being strong-willed when it comes to facing problematic and stressfull activities. It may be pretty hard to do at first, but trying to be cool, calm and collected in times of extreme pressure is what will prevent your sanity from going into a downward turn.

When it comes to effectively curing oneself of a mental illness, one must keep in mind that one has to be honest with oneself and assess what kind of depression or mental illness one actually has. Go to a reputable psychiatrist to get yourself diagnosed correctly as well to get the right depression treatment. Here are the various types of depression:

Manic or Bipolar depression – is characterized by sudden and extreme mood swings where one minute the sufferer is in an high state of euphoria while the next minute (day or week) the sufferer is in a personal hell.

Postpartum depression – is recognizable by long periods of depression and a feeling of emptiness in a new mother where physical stress during child delivery and / or an undefined sense of responsibility towards the new born child are just some of the possible factors why some new mothers go through this illness.

Dysthimia – is characterized by a slight resemblance to bipolar (manic) depression, although in this case, it has been seen to be much less severe. However, doctors say that any case of depression should be treated at once.

Cyclothemia – is recognizable by a similarity with Manic or Bipolar depression wherein the individual suffering from this mental illness may occasionally suffer from severe mood swings.

Seasonal Affective Disorder – characterized by falling into a rut only during specific seasons (i.e. Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall). Studies, however, prove that more people become depressed during the Winter and Fall seasons and lastly, mood swings, wherein a person’s mood may shift from happy to sad to angry in just a short period of time.

However, the type of depression that has been shown to be most common is anxiety depression, which is actually characterized when someone is being overly anxious about some things. Anxiety is a natural behaviour that actually will help someone cope more with certain stressful activities like a first date or a gruelling exam the following day. Anxiety does actually help you get ready for dealing with certain “difficult situations”. Therefore, anxiety is actually a good thing.

Anxiety depression however, is just the opposite. However, it should not be lightly dismissed as a “case of the jitters”. Anxiety depression is in fact an disease that can be caused by the actual biological DNA of an individual, or in other words, it can be an hereditary illness.

Moreover, there are even several kinds of anxiety depression too. Each one has its own unique characteristics. Take for instance Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD. This kind of anxiety depression is much more complicated than the normal, common or garden anxiety depression, in spite of it probably being a daily routine for those who suffer from this anxiety depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder actually makes the individual much more paranoid than normal. Anxiety attacks are much more frequent, even absurdly so at times.

Suffers can become anxious even when there is no apparent explanation for them to behave in such a manner. Those people suffering from Generalized Anxiety Disorder often show several symptoms ranging from from lack of sleep, to being unable to relax, getting tired easily, inability to concentrate and suffering from depression. However, this sort of anxiety depression is still curable though.

You should consult a reputable cognitive behavioural therapist who will recommend the therapy that you need to help you relax. Furthermore, prescribed medicines are a must to help these individuals combat anxiety attacks, assist them to calm down and help them relax.
